As we enter into the final month of 2020 and start to think about our goals and intentions for the New Year, it's important to recognize why setting goals and intentions can be ineffective and what you can do instead to start living the life that you are dreaming of.
There are 2 fundamental flaws with setting goals and intentions.
1️⃣ There are a lot of external influences that can affect our goals. If 2020 has taught us anything it's that absolutely nothing in this life is certain. If you set goals to travel this year or to attend a major seminar, it may have been put off by the pandemic.
2️⃣ Chasing a "thing" can often put us into the loop of "I'll be happy when...". What happens is we think we want more money and when we get that we are temporarily happier but when that wears off we are stuck seeking the next thing that we THINK will give us that desired feeling instead.
Instead of setting traditional goals, try this instead:
♥ Determine what FEELING is behind those goals. Is it freedom? Abundance? Confidence? Support? What will getting that thing make you FEEL?
♥ Set the intention to experience more of that FEELING.
When we chase a feeling instead of a thing:
✨ the outside world has less impact on whether or not we achieve that goal
✨ We open ourselves up to experiencing the infinite ways that we can experience that feeling instead of the one way that we "think" it will come to us
✨ We break the cycle of "I'll be happy when..."
