Motion = Emotion

CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and other schools of thought have discovered that what we think and what we do have a direct impact on the way that we feel.


To put it simply Motion = Emotion


If we do the same things we have always done and think the same way that we have always thought then we will feel the same way that we have always felt.


The good news about this is that there are a number of tools that we can do to create better feeling emotions in our beings.


There are 2 things that we can move so that we start feeling better, number 1 our bodies and number 2 our mind/focus.


Below are 4 of my favorite techniques for starting this shift in emotions, anytime, anywhere!


Move the body by moving your breath!

1. 3 Part Breath

This is a super simple technique that helps us to expand our breath from our chest into our ribs and belly as well. When we are born this is our natural way of being but as we get older and start to experience stress, tension, anxiety, etc our breath becomes shallow and keeps us in a constant state of fight or flight. 2. One Minute Breath

This breathing technique, like the last one, moves our bodies and our minds by shifting the focus to the movement that breath creates in the body. This technique is done by breathing in for 5 seconds, holding the breath for 5 seconds, exhaling for 5 seconds and holding again for 5 seconds. The one minute breath is a form of meditation that can be practiced anytime, anywhere! For a deeper exploration of this breath check out this post on B Blissful with B!


Move the mind by shifting your mind/thoughts/focus!

3. Choose Again

Each day we have up to 60,000 thoughts, 90% of which are the exact same as the previous day. When this happens the synapses in our brain are trained to fire automatically, strengthening the thoughts that we have most. This is great if we are positive thinkers, but what if we are negative thinkers?! No worries, there is a simple technique you can use to start shifting your thoughts called Choose Again. Check out the method here!


4. Peace Begins with Me

Another way we can shift our focus is by using a mantra or positive affirmation! A great one to use is Peace Begins With Me. This one is powerful because it reminds us that the way we feel is within our control. To learn about this powerful practice check out this blog post!
